| Dollywood
has its first wooden roller coaster! Thunderhead, a massive
hillside twister from Great Coasters International, debuted
in 2004 to rave reviews at the world-famous Pigeon Forge,
Tennessee theme park.
Thunderhead
reaches speeds of 53.7 mph, starting off with a 100-foot
first drop that swerves into an S-curve at the bottom. Midway
through the ride, the train passes through the station
at 38.9 mph above the exit platform, giving riders a tunnel
effect and waiting guests a unique sight and roaring sound.
Thunderhead is located in a new themed section of
the park called Thunderhead Gap, located near the park's train
ride and fashioned after the region's old logging camps.
Thunderhead
features two Millennium Flyer coaster trains and provides a
safe, comfortable ride experience throughout its 3,230-feet
of mountainous track.
